A Lucky Day by Carlos J. Server-Book Review

The largest prize ever awarded by the EuroMillions lottery has been won by a lucky someone from a small village on the French Riviera. What starts out as the happiest day in history for the local inhabitants soon turns into a race against the clock to find the lucky winner and cash in the lottery ticket. A priest with verbal incontinence, a sweet little old lady with secret sexual fantasies about the local butcher, a village mayor who’s held power for thirty years, and a mailman in love with the wife of a villainous baker are just a few of the quirky characters who will make you laugh and occasionally bring a tear to your eye as you enjoy everyday situations taken to extremes. A Lucky Day is a heartwarming comedy peopled by a highly entertaining cast of characters.

*I was provided with a copy of this book by the author in exchange of an honest review*

A Lucky Day is an english translation of the spanish book called Un día con suerte.

What I liked:

Suspense

Although it is mainly a humorous and sweet novel, it contained well-executed suspense. We don't get to know who is the lottery winner till literary the last page. I almost thought the author was going to leave it up to our imagination which would have pissed me off to be honest. I had so many theories about 90% of characters in the story but none of them were correct sadly. Which brings me to the.....

Ending

Unexpected endings are my favourite endings ever. It was simple and sweet and not what I predicted at all. I like it when the author surprises the audience rather than go with a "safe" ending.

Coziness

You know that one comfy place in your house where you can turn into a human burrito and read a cute little book that makes you happy from the inside? Yeah? This book is the perfect cute book to read when you are this cozy. Although it is not heavily romantic, it is focused on the love between families and communities. It is so familial and sweet. Everyone knows everyone in this town and everyone shares good and bad memories. Yes, there are some jerks that live in the town (will get to that later!!), but overall the characters are lovely and amusing.

What I didn't like as much:

Dramatic

While the plot is entertaining, I felt like everyone is being a little too dramatic about the whole lottery winner. I am not going to lie, I eventually got sucked into the drama and wanted to know the lottery winner as much as Dominique ( the villainous baker ). However, if you think about it, everyone made a big deal out of it. Maybe because I don't live in such a small town so I don't understand these "traditions".

Extras:

Favourite Quote:
